In this post we focus on the PSP Go’s new pause feature. Perhaps one of the best features on the PSP Go. Instead of exiting a game when you hit the home button (PSP Logo button) we’re presented with another option. Rather than just exit there is now the option to pause the game. In other words, create a save state. An exact save of where you are in the game.

PSP Go Save States. Resume a game when you want too.
It doesn’t matter if there is no save point. Just pause the game and the PSP Go saves the location were you are to the user 16GB internal storage. Later you can continue when you like. In a few hours or a few days. The save state stays or game pause there in till you use it and its then automatically removed. To select and continue where you left off, all you need to do is go to the game menu then Resume game. Your game pause or save state is there and with a thumbnail so its easy to spot.
Just what the above video, which clearly demonstrates this.

Inside the PSP/GAME folder, holds all the information for the games on the psp, including an Eboot file and a DAT file. The Eboot file is naturally the game itself, while the DAT file seems to contain legal information about the game. This was determined by replacing the eboot file by that of a different game (both demo games) but leaving the DAT file untouched. Upon attempting to load the game in the psp, a prompt pops up “the copyright protection information is invalid”. Maybe the current approach to “hack” the psp is oriented in the wrong direction. Instead of changing the firmware itself, maybe it would be easier to decrypt the information in the DAT file and alter this information to fool the psp into thinking that a particular game is actually legal. Just my output though, I know nothing of these sorts.

I did a bit of research (so like google) and it just so happens that I’m not the first person to recognize this. It turns out that the DAT is encrypted by an uncracked key that is different for each psp. It seems that this is a 128 bit key and is quite difficult to crack. Not much homebrewers seem to tamper with this because it is for 1 directly illegal (you are messing around with the licensing) the data seems to be highly encrypted. But once again, I am no professional an probably am not really making any sense to some of the real homebrewers out there. Don’t put too much validity into what I write.

The PSP can be connected to the Computer. So clearly its going to be hackable , the Lack of UMD Support, and no remorse by sony to give back to the community after spending a lot of your hard cash on their products is going to motivate the Dev teams more then ever (because they want this too lol) It WILL get hacked, the real question is When?
i own a PSP go also lol Yes SaveState is cool, but i dont use it hehe.
October 5, 2009 at 8:57 pm
So wait, JUST because it can connect to the computer, that means its CLEARLY hackable? i wish i could live in your world.

The wording may be poor, but essentially, he’s right. If you can access files via the computer, it is “hackable.” However, one should keep in mind that any video game system is “hackable,” but the implication is that this should be able to be soft-modded. All you have to do is figure out how to flash the appropriate Firmware data or patch the games.
At this point, since games are DD, it does make the most sense to patch the games. The flaw in that method is that Sony can patch the Firmware to deny patches games. So far, Nintendo is working very hard to put down the Homebrew, to the point where the System Menu now deletes various Homebrew apps. This is a problem, because it requires the Wiibrew teams to be constantly finding new bugs and tweaks. The CFW tends to be preferred, because it just takes one guy to decrypt the new update and apply all his CFW features to it.
Both are deeply and profoundly flawed by the fact that people do give up on this stuff before the companies do. We’ve already lost DAX and it’s true that GEN stepped in to fill the shoes, but a lot of people are displeased. Switching to GEN did feel like a downgrade, especially since we lost the Card speed boost. Also, we still don’t have 6.00 GEN, it’s clear the team is putting it off, they released a patcher for 5.55+ games. Why release a patcher if you have 6.00 on the horizon?

Anyone discover where the save state data is stored yet? I’ve received confirmation from Freeplay (the guy who made the hello world app) that in his dumps from Flash0 and Flash1, neither contains the save state data.
Oh, and PS. The Document.dat file is nothing more than the game manual, accessible by pressing triangle and choosing Instructions. Try and delete it and see. The file that prevents eboot swapping (of different eboots) is a RIF file in the License folder on the root of your PSP.

No doubt that if the pspgo is hackable it will be quite some time before it happens. I bricked my 1000 about 2 weeks ago (it was going strong for years). The release of the go has me excited, but after being spoiled rotten with a 1000 that did everything, I cannot in good faith allow myself to drop $250 until the go can do the same. This is a plea to DAX. One of millions i’m sure. Come back to the scene, man! You are the psp. This is not to discredit any of the other amazing devs who have worked tirelessly on making the psp as great as its been. But DAX has done for the cfw and homebrew world what Jordan has done for the game of basketball. Without his input or efforts I fear it will be a very long time before we’re downloading iso’s and running through super mario world on Sony’s new baby.

probably the best thing it has right now .

Wow, built in cheating.
Can you have multiple states? Save states is pretty much exploitable in beating games. Then again, it does save your sanity trying to fulfill the DP bonuses in Dissidia!

so i opened up my psp go to see what kind of battery it was and if it could be turnied into a pandora battery. what i found was that the battery is actually connected deep inside the psp. There are ways to disconnect it and successfully install a new battery possibly a pandora battery even. See i even downloaded Dark alex’s time machine a put it on my psp go. I went to the time machine and it did not chow up as corrupted data which amazed me because everything else i tried showed up as corrupted data. So i clicked on the game but all it said was game is not supported. Then later i found out that all you need to be able to run time machine is to have a pandora battery. So if the Gen tema can try to found out a way to install a pandora battery we chould be able to downgrade the psp go to an earlier custom firmware. See the psp go is definanlty hackable. All the hackers right now are trying to be able to put a custom firmware on 6.00, 6.10, and 6.20. What they dont realize is that for now they can just downgrade the psp go with time machine if they can just figure out how to put a pandora battery in the psp go. I am currently working on this. I may have a pandora battery in a month or two that is just for the psp go. So guys give it some time. I or someone else will have this baby hacked in at least a month or two months. Dont worry it will be hacked.

Sorry but this is not a closer look at the pause function, its a DISTANT LOOK at the pause function!
It is my understanding that it is always possible to hack a product, you just have to be smarter than the person who created the security, so by this reasoning all we have to do is get Stephen Hawking to join the fight against the oppression that is anti-piracy laws and we should have our crack within a few hours………….so does anyone have his number?
